Change for Caldera OpenLinux Workstation 3.1 Will Require "Per System" Licenses
Jun 25, 2001, 17 :16 UTC (154 Talkback[s]) (31538 reads)

Caldera has changed the license on its OpenLinux Workstation product for the newest version (3.1) to require one license per system the distribution is installed on. The company will provide a certificate of license authenticity it says it expects to find on each system running OpenLinux Workstation. From the reviewer's guide to Caldera OpenLinux Workstation (5.3MB PDF):

"OpenLinux Workstation licensing has changed from previous versions. OpenLinux Workstation, as a product, is licensed per system and cannot be deployed without limit Caldera will provide a certificate of license authenticity (COLA) with each unit sold, an Caldera expects each customer to have a COLA for each system that deploys OpenLinux Workstation.

Although OpenLinux Workstation contains the Linux kernel and a variety of open source software, there are a wide variety of licenses, each with different distribution restrictions Additionally, Caldera includes some of its own proprietary software as well as other Copyrighted material."

Caldera will begin shipping OpenLinux Workstation 3.1 at the end of June.
