[Résolu] : j'ai upgradé sur Natty, et réinstallé derrière les pilotes propriétaires (par pur hasard parce que j'ai testé de nouveau les pilotes libres qui m'ont planté 2 fois la machine). Et le système a enfin acquis la fluidité attendue.

j'ai un petit souci sur ma machine de dev sous kubuntu maverick, la réactivité de l'affichage n'est pas terrible.
Ca ne m'empêche pas de coder, loin de là, mais c'est très frustrant car sous 7 (oui j'ai un dual boot avec du crosoft pour photoshop, bouh pas bien je sais) ça carbure beaucoup plus vite ce qui est quand même un comble. le scroll sous chrome/chromium par exemple est incomparable. Saccadé avec 1/2 seconde de retard d'un côté, ultra fluide de l'autre.
La machine, sans être une machine de course est quand même correcte, un dual core avec 8Go de RAM et une radeon HD 5570.
J'ai les pilotes propriétaires pour la CG, désactivé tous les zigouigouis de kde qui pourraient faire ramer, mais rien n'y fait. Pourtant la machine se tourne les pouces à 0.05 de charge.
Le plus frustrant est qu'au taf j'ai une machine qui sur le papier est une brouette en comparaison, avec exactement la même conf KDE mais en 9.10 qui est par contre elle hyper réactive.
Voilà, ça ressemble comme ça à un problème d'affichage puisque la machine n'est pas chargée mais je ne vois pas trop d'alternative pour les pilotes vidéo.

peut-être un problème entre le pilote proprio et ta version du noyau. X.org utilise bien catalyst ou vesa ?
As-tu essayé avec les pilotes libre ? Ils devraient faire l'affaire. Avec le noyau 2.6.38 ils font tourner sans problème de perf KDE + effet.

en cherchant un peu (ati 5500 linux), on voit que la carte graphique n'est pas toute jeune, comprendre au moins un peu plus d'un an. C'est donc un point positif pour le support sous Linux. Et par chance, le second lien me conduisant ici : http://fr.driverscollection.com/?H=Radeon%20HD%205500&By=ATI&SS=Linux ; j'en suis pleinement rassuré : enfin des drivers disponibles sur des sites collectors à la "tous-les-drivers-point-com". Ma bonne dame, Linux est enfin prêt pour le desktop de Mme Michou.
trêve de plaisanterie, il conviendrait de regarder si la carte est supportée ou pas et d'y associer le pilote idoine sur ta belle distribution. Si cela ne fonctionne pas avec LA distribution que tu as choisi, essaie avec une autre. Les développeurs Linuxiens sont pervers et ne comblent pas nécessairement les utilisateurs d'un coup, un seul. Il faut parfois le mériter un peu.

ayant lu en diagonale, je découvre que tu utilises Ubuntu :
- essaie d'installer le pilote propriétaire : système / admin / pilotes supplémentaire,
- sinon essaie la dernière version (natty).

Perso j'ai noté une grande différence de perf sous les pilotes libres avec le noyau 2.6.38 (sous Debian).

Me voilà donc avec un upgrade natty tout frais, pilotes libres. Malheureusement je n'ai pas noté la même amélioration des performances graphiques que toi.
Ceci dit comme l'affichage est désormais aussi rapide qu'avec les pilotes propriétaires, je vais rester avec les pilotes libres cette fois.

Je viens d'essayer les pilotes libres, à ma grande surprise je n'ai noté aucun changement de perf (je m'attendais plutôt à une régression en fait).

Tu as installé catalyst depuis les dépôts Ubuntu ou par l'installeur fournit par AMD ?
Avant j'utilisais l'installeur, et pour avoir l'accélération 3D avec le pilote libre il fallait réinstaller les paquets xserver-xorg-core, libgl1-mesa-glx, libgl1-mesa-dri le pilote proprio écrasant certains fichiers.

Soyons clair, c'est largement utilisable en l'état. Simplement je trouve frustrant que :
- la même machine tourne bien mieux sous windows 7
- une machine bien moins puissante tourne bien mieux sous kubuntu
Je me dis qu'il y a un truc qui cloche sans parvenir à mettre la main dessus.

Alors oui, j'ai beaucoup de ram. C'est pour pouvoir monter en mémoire tout mon projet, mais tu constateras qu'à part ça on est loin des canons actuels.
Alors non ce n'est pas une machine de course, disons que c'est une bonne grosse familiale avec de la place pour les bagages ;)
Je reboote avec les pilotes propriétaires et je colle les logs.
