j'ai rectifié mon commentaire, je voulais dire porté sur x86

Par ailleurs la société VSI est rentable, et HP-UX avait des utilisateurs aussi fidèles que ceux de VMS, donc porter HP-UX sur x86 avait du sens.

Il y avait chez HP 3 OS utilisant la puce Itanium (surnommée Itanic vu son succès)

Le premier à être porté sur x86 a été Non Stop, l'ancien OS de Tandem.
C'est sans doute un hasard si à ce moment, le chef de la ligne de produit Itanium était un ancien de Non Stop :-)

Ensuite la société VSI a proposé à Hp de racheter VMS, ce qui a été fait.

Ce que je ne m'explique pas, c'est que HP a laissé mourir HP-UX, alors que porter HP-UX sur x86 représentait (en gros) la même quantité de travail que porter VMS, sauf que HP-UX, c'est 5 fois la part de marché de VMS.
