De plus, techniquement, c'est un format lourd : ré-enregistre en format MS Word sous OOo, et la taille du .doc diminue, incroyable non ? (inutile de préciser que le .sxw, le format de OOo en XML zippé est bien plus léger)
Et ce format est porteur de "macro-virus-truc".

Je ne connais pas looking-glass... j'ai juste vu les démos en vidéo que tout le monde a vues. Mais bon, ça c'est la démonstration pour impressionner, mais je pense qu'il doit y avoir une vrai API derrière tout ça, pour pouvoir développer des trucs utiles (et d'autres moins).
"imiter Aqua" le troll qui tue... C'est beau, intuitif et fonctionnel Aqua, même si c'est pas encore optimal, lourd et encore bien buggué.
De l'(in)utilité des soit-disant "gadgets" on en a déjà beaucoup parlé sur ces pages : l'anti-crénelage, les canaux de transparence, la 3D, etc. sont nécessaires (pour le futur pas forcément lointain) et pas gadgets du tout pour beaucoup d'applications (dont entre autre l'accessibilité). Les exemples ne manquent pas, seulement voilà ils ne sont pas évidents à voir.
C'est nécessaire maintenant !
Il serait dommage de s'en priver, et se retrouver à la bourre dans quelques années. Certaines fonctionnalités sont des killer-features (des fonctionnalités qui font que les utilisateurs changent de système), certaines non-fonctionnalités sont des looser-features (des fonctionnalités qui font que les utilisateurs ne veulent en aucun cas rester sur ce système).
Tu compileras ton X avec un --disable-3d, c'est tout, merci pour les autres.

Vous pensez sérieusement qu'une grosse entreprise puisse faire confiance dans la qualité des produits de Microsoft ? Après toutes les déboires qu'elle a connu sur ses différentes versions finales. ( le coup de IEx/Outlokk* qui ont tant de trous de sécu et qui ne sont plus maintenus, le coup des licences, des pratiques anti-concurrentielles, des ventes forcées, du lobbying, des brevets, j'en passe et des meilleures). Ca laisse des traces ces problèmes. A beaucoup lorsqu'on dit Microsoft, cela fait penser à produits baclés, pas fini. Comment une entreprise pourrait elle prendre de tels risques ?
On se doutait bien de cette réponse : cordiale, informative, confirmant ce qu'on soupçonnait (profil bas en cette période, réveil prévu, etc.), la lettre ouverte ayant été accueillie comme un soutien et un appel.
D'une manière générale, les articles longs de Ars Technica sont toujours fouillés en profondeur, il y a toujours une vrai boulot d'enquête qui ne se veut surtout pas superficiel, et ils ne se cantonnent pas au purement technique, ils font des incursions dans l'IHM, le social, etc. en bref à part le temps qu'on y passe, c'est toujours un vrai plaisir à lire... sauf que c'est en blanc sur fond noir et ça défonce les yeux...
Avant de commiter un fichier édité dans sa propre sandbox, il faut faire un cvs update pour voir si le fichier a été modifié/commité par quelqu'un, et résoudre les conflits le cas échéant.
Les commits ne se font jamais au même moment, donc si le même passage est modifié sur le même fichier par deux users, alors le premier passe sans problème, le deuxième doit résoudre le conflit : soit en abandonnant ses modifs, soit en reprenant les modifs précédemment commitées, soit en branchant (moyen).
Le reserved checkout est possible mais pas encouragé par CVS (et je suppose Subversion). Il existe une solution à mi-chemin entre le unreserved checkout (fonctionnement normal de CVS) et le reserved checkout (verrous) : la fonctionnalité de watch associé à edit, unedit et watchers.
